How to Handle Pipe Fittings That Have Passed Their Storage Period
Many project managers worry that if pipes or fittings exceed the specified storage period, they must be scrapped.
Actually, not necessarily. Expired PE pipes should undergo performance re-inspection, mainly covering the following aspects:
· Appearance check:
Look for cracks, discoloration, deformation, or surface chalking.
· Mechanical performance test:
Includes tensile strength and elongation at break for pipes; fusion strength, peel strength, and operating torque for fittings and valves.
· Pressure test:
Ensures that the pipe can still operate safely under its designed working pressure.
Only after passing these tests can the pipes and fittings continue to be used.
If any item fails, they should be downgraded for non-critical use to ensure project safety.
